Hi, I am Dr Tom Poirier of Peartreedental
Wisdom teeth; almost all of us will develop third molars, usually in the second decade of life and I believe that wisdom teeth are “unnecessary , evolutionary degenerates”...many people don't have room for them, most can't get or keep them clean....most often, they should be removed.
It has been shown, the best time to remove the wisdom teeth is near or before the age of 18 ...it varies from boys to girls and from one individual to another... BUT, removing these teeth early, allows for the bone of the jaw to heal in a very normal fashion, preventing periodontal problems associated with third molars.
The young wisdom tooth has undeveloped roots and the bone is softer making removal easier... Also the young heal quickly, and are more able to cope with the discomfort if any...
If you have or know a teen with wisdom teeth, suggest that they see their dentist about removal in a timely manner... We here at Pear Tree Dental can remove these teeth.
